Then your mind is blown because for very niche builds all those blue items you stopped caring about all that time ago could now potentially be much better than anything else you can find for a specific slot. Then you dig a little deeper for your class and you find that actually sometimes there are gold rings or items that are actually near or BIS. That's an interesting thought - to go back and need items you wouldn't typically think you've outgrown. Then you discover you need to pick up white or grey items to make runewords. Quickly you move to rares and then if you're lucky to some uniques. It bears mentioning that it still falls behind imo in one thing - making some base items and lower tier items important for late game.
